The team “Red Bull the Long Way” has left on the 22nd day in Airolo for the next day’s stage. Team #redbullderlangeweg made it this morning to Rheinwaldhorn (3.402m). What a view from the high peaks! A long stage awaits team #redbullderlangeweg today. The accommodation is planned in a not so comfortable hut without heating and without water.

Tamara Lunger retires from Red Bull Der Lange Weg due to injury
It was a fantastic climb to Rheinwaldhorn (3,402m) in perfect weather conditions, but after the descent, the Red Bull Der Lange Weg team suffered a setback.
The Italian ski mountaineer had been battling an injury to her tibia for nearly two weeks, but, despite the pain, Tamara Lunger was pushing through to realise the team’s dream – to cross the Alps from east to west, from lower Austria to Nice on skis and on foot. When descending on a steep, frozen slope Lunger incurred further shin injury and didn’t feel she could control her skis safely anymore, forcing her to quit the expedition.
I think it was the right decision, even though it was very difficult for me. I’m sorry to say goodbye to the team. It was a great experience for me to see how we grew together. | Tamara Lunger
Bernhard Hug (SUI), David Wallmann (AUT), Philipp Reiter (GER) and Janelle and Mark Smiley (USA) now continue on their own. They also regret Tamara Lunger’s departure. After yesterday’s extremely long stage from Hinterrhein to Airolo with 3,750m of ascent, 70km of distance and a total of 16 hours on their feet, the quintet wants to reach the Rifugio Aurona today. In the next few days, they continue to the Simplon Pass, Saas Fee, and the Dufourspitze.
